How to play Hi Lo 13 European Blackjack: strategy and rules 

The basic rules of Hi Lo European Blackjack are similar to all other Blackjack games. Player and dealer aim to reach a score of 21 using two or more cards. Whoever gets closest to 21 without going over, or ‘bust’, wins.

• Player and dealer initially receive two cards. One of the dealer’s will be visible to the player. A maximum of eleven further cards may be drawn but the dealer will always stand on a score of 17.

• If the dealer busts, you automatically win. If there is a tie it is called a Push.

• If the dealer gets Blackjack, all bets, including doubles, are lost. You can place an additional ‘Insurance’ bet against this if the dealer’s first card is an Ace.

• Hi Lo 13 European Blackjack includes the option to place a side bet in every game – the Hi Lo gamble.

• To take up the Hi Lo bet a player must predict ‘below, above or equal to 13’ before the hand is dealt. The value of the player’s first two cards determines the value of the hand and the outcome of the side bet. Payouts are 1:1 although successful tie bets return at 10:1.
